Merrie is in pre-trial detention since 25 May 2017 for abortion; an offence punishable of 10 years of imprisonment under Congolese law.  

Aged 23, Merrie is a mother of one girl and would like to relocate to a new town upon her release to start a new life.  “Before my arrest, I earned 20$ monthly and used it, together with financial assistance I receievd from my brother, to cover for our needs: my daughter, my mother and I. I would like to learn something to do that will generate money so that upon my release I am able to take care of my daughter in another town.”
